Daniel P. Hickson began his career with the Metropolitan Police Department in 1973 as a police cadet. He served as an officer in both uniform patrol and tactical assignments before beginning work as a detective. Hickson served as a detective in the Narcotics Branch, Sex Assault Unit and the Homicide Branch. In 1992, Hickson was promoted to sergeant and was assigned to the Fourth District. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1994 and assigned to the Fifth District, and in 1996 he became an acting captain in the First District. After a brief period of retirement, Hickson returned to the Metropolitan Police Department in 2008. Since that time, Commander Hickson has served in a variety of command staff positions, including commander of Criminal Intelligence Branch, Criminal Investigations Division, First District; Youth and Family Services Division; and the Metropolitan Police Academy.
